Today’s big content win is Amex’s new Facebook Messenger bot.
Last week at the Cannes-Lions event the financial services company revealed that it has developed a pilot bot and plans to release it for customer use in the coming months.
The offering will allow the firm to interact directly with consumers via the Messenger interface. Card members can sign-up to receive real-time notifications about their purchases as well as important information about benefits and services via the bot. For example, if a consumer uses their Amex card to buy an airline ticket, he or she would receive a purchase notification in Messenger and then could also receive reminders about things like airport lounge access and nearby recommended hotels.
The effort showcases brands’ increased interest in bots, as well as in reaching consumers on popular messaging platforms. As Dave Wolf, vice president, Digital Partnerships & Development at American Express, put it: "We know our Card Members appreciate the convenience of receiving information from Amex on digital platforms where they’re already spending time.”
